The traffic accident in Bratislava (or accident at the Zochova bus stop) happened on 2 October 2022 shortly after 22.25 CEST[1][2] at the Zochova bus stop at Staromestská Street in Old Town, Bratislava, Slovakia.[3]

The accident was caused by the driver of the Škoda Superb, who, according to TV Markíza, was the general secretary of the Deaflympic Committee of Slovakia Dušan Dědeček.[4][5] According to the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Bratislava, the driver of the vehicle under the influence of alcohol lost control, drove the vehicle off the road and at a high speed of 110 km/h[6] bumped into people waiting at the bus stop. Police officers found the presence of alcohol in the driver's breath with a measured value of 0.81 mg/l (1.69 per thousand). He was subsequently detained and placed in a police detention cell, while the investigator started criminal prosecution for the crime of murder (§ 149 Article 1 of the Criminal Code).[1][7][8] A day later, the legal qualification was changed and the investigator charged him with the crime of general endangerment (§ 284, 285 of the Criminal Code).[9][10] According to published information, Dědeček's son Lukáš was sitting in the passenger seat, also under the influence of alcohol (0.5 mg/l).[1][7][11]

As a result of the accident, four people died on the spot, three people were taken to hospitals in critical condition, and three more people suffered injuries that required hospital treatment. The following day, one of the hospitalized persons died as a result of the injuries sustained.[1][12] Those affected were mainly non-Bratislava students of Bratislava universities, waiting for connections to dormitories in Mlynská dolina.[13]

The Zochova bus stop was out of service until 13:03 the next day.[14][15]
