Local elections will be held on Makati on Monday, May 9, 2022, as a part of the 2022 Philippine general election. Voters will elect candidates for Mayor, Vice Mayor, 2 Congressmen, and the 16 councilors that would be members of the City Council.
Background[edit]
Mayor Abigail Binay and Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo are the incumbents; both are members of United Nationalist Alliance and the local party Makatizens United Party. Binay was elected in 2016, defeating then-incumbent Mayor Kid Peña and 2019, defeating her brother, former mayor Junjun Binay, while Lagdameo was also elected in 2016 and 2019.
Binay will seek her third and last term as Makati Mayor.[1] She and Lagdameo were nominated by their local party, Makatizens United Party, for mayor and vice mayor, respectively.
Binay's notable challengers for mayor is another sibling, Marita Angeline "Anne" Binay, who supported the candidacy of Junjun Binay in the 2019. She is running as independent. Other candidates are Joshua Reyes of the Reform PH-People's Party, and independent candidates Rosalinda de Asis and Joel Hernandez.
In the vice mayoralty race, Lagdameo will face Reynaldo Magante of the Reform PH-People's Party, and Rod Biolena, an independent candidate.
Previous potential candidates for mayor included former Makati Mayor Junjun Binay and incumbent 1st district representative Romulo "Kid' Peña. Junjun Binay decided not to run this time, while Peña decided to run for reelection as 1st district representative.
