The 2022 Road Safety World Series was the second season of an international Twenty20 cricket league featuring retired international cricketers. It was organised by the Road Safety World Series to raise awareness about road safety.
The Road Safety World Series was founded by Ravi Gaikwad and approved by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.[1][2][3]
New Zealand Legends were the new entrants this edition and they joined the teams from India, England, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, Australia, and Bangladesh.[4][5] The competition was supported by the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.[6]
Background[edit]
Initially, the second season was supposed to be held jointly in India and the United Arab Emirates in February 2022, but was moved to the UAE and scheduled in March because of a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in India.[7][8] A number of players, including Sachin Tendulkar, pulled out of the tournament after having not received their payment from the first season;[9] payments were eventually received.[10] The tournament was further postponed a number of times and eventually scheduled for September.[11][12]
Venues[edit]
Matches were played at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Holkar Stadium in Indore, Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun and Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, in Raipur with the semi-finals and final played on 1 October 2022, in Raipur.[13][14]
