On 8 November 2024, two Village Defence Guards (VDGs), Kuldeep Kumar and Nazir Ahmed, were killed by militants in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmir Tigers claimed responsibility for the killings.[1]
The bodies were found in forested areas in Ohli Kuntwara, prompting a joint operation by the Indian Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) to track down the perpetrators.[2]
Continued Gunfight
On 10 November 2024, the joint operation continued in the Bhart Ridge area of Kishtwar. During this encounter, three Indian Army paratroopers were injured. The same militant group was believed to be involved.[3]
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and other officials condemned the attack and expressed their condolences. They also vowed action against militant activities.[4]
Reactions
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack, stating, "No words are strong enough to condemn the heinous terrorist attack on VDG members in Kishtwar. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the brave sons martyred in this cowardly attack. We are firmly resolved to destroy all terror outfits and avenge this barbaric act."[5]
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and leaders from the Congress and BJP also expressed their condolences and called for swift action against the militants.[6]
