The 2024 Ganderbal Attack occurred on October 20, 2024, when militants targeted workers at a construction site in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the attack.[2]

Background

The attack took place at a construction site for the Z-Morh Tunnel, aimed at improving connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh. The workers were employed by APCO Infratech from Uttar Pradesh.[3]

Attack and Response

Militants opened fire, killing Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar and six migrant laborers. Security forces, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted a large-scale search operation to apprehend the militants.[4]

Political and Social Reactions

The attack drew condemnation from political leaders. Mehbooba Mufti called on the administration to ensure non-local workers do not flee the Valley, emphasizing it would exacerbate regional challenges.[5]

Other Militant Claims

Apart from TRF, the People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF) praised the attack, labeling the Z-Morh tunnel as a "military project" aimed at disrupting Indian military deployments.[6]
