2024 Round Rock Juneteenth shooting
On June 15, 2024, in Round Rock, Texas, U.S., two people were killed and at least fourteen people were injured in a shooting at Old Settlers Park during a Juneteenth festival, which featured performances from artists such as Sean Ardoin and Paul Wall. Tensions escalated to gunfire after two groups opened fire on each other.[1][2] Two women, one aged 33 and one aged 54, were killed. Police suspect they had no known involvement in any altercation that lead up to the shooting, and were most likely innocent bystanders.
On June 20, a 17-year-old Manor, Texas male was arrested in connection with the shooting.[3] He is being held at the Williamson County Jail, without bond. This suspect, surnamed Thompson, admitted in an affidavit that he fired three shots in the direction of a victim, striking the victim in the leg. He faces aggravated assault charges.[4]
The following day, another teenager was arrested. 17-year-olds are considered adults legally in Texas, and can face life imprisonment for murder.
