2024 shooting of Sonoma County sheriff's deputies

On March 3, 2024, four deputies were shot and wounded, allegedly by a 53-year-old gunman who was being sought at after during a chase in Santa Rosa, California. Law enforcement was seeking the man after reports were made of a made brandishing a firearm at people near an establishment. South of Santa Rosa, at the Stony Point Road and Todd Road area, gunfire between the suspect and the officers erupted at around 12:10 am, and the alleged gunman was found dead later. The case is still under investigation.[1]

One of the officers is in critical condition, as of March 5, but is considered to be improving. He was shot in the head.

The alleged gunman has been identified as 53-year-old Jose Luis Cervantes Villasenor, a Santa Rosa resident who had a criminal record ranging from misdemeanors to felonies; it is unspecified if any charges were of violent nature or involved firearms related offenses.

Shooting[edit]

The gunman had an AK-47, and was sought at by officers after alleged brandishing of a firearm was reported by cops near an establishment, reportedly a bar or restaurant. At least portions of the shooting was caught by officers on their body-cameras, but it has yet to be released.[2]
