On June 15, 2025, at 3.30 p.m. IST (10:00 UTC), the main iron spans of the Kundmala bridge across the Indrayani River in the Pune district of Maharashtra, India collapsed, causing the deaths of at least 4 people and injuries to more than 51 others.

Background

Kundmala is a popular local tourist spot, especially during the monsoon season. A bridge over the Indrayani River was built around 1993 between Shelarwadi and Indori village, solely for pedestrians, but two-wheeled vehicles frequently used it. Locals had raised concerns about its weakening structure over the years.

Accident

At the time of the collapse, there were five motorcycles and several pedestrians on the bridge.
