Since 28 February 2026, a state of emergency has been implemented in Israel (as well as its occupied territories) as a result of the 2026 Iran conflict. The order was issued by Defence Minister Israel Katz, who stated "Under my authority pursuant to Section 9C(b)(1) of the Civil Defence Law, 5711-1951, and after being convinced that there is a high probability of an attack on the civilian population, I hereby declare a special state on the home front throughout the entire territory of the country."[1]
As part of the state of emergency, schools and many businesses were forced to close, and public gatherings have been prohibited.[2][3] The state of emergency also saw an increased border presence (although border crossings with Egypt and Jordan remain open) and the suspension of civilian air travel.[3] 'Tens of thousands' of IDF reservists have been mobilized and some hospitals have begun relocating their operations to areas underground.[4]
