30-Story Cruciform Block

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

30-Story Cruciform Blocks (Chinese: 30层大十字型大厦[1]) is a design of public housing blocks in Hong Kong. Most buildings of this type were completed between 1977 and 1979. These buildings were designed by the Works Bureau. Currently, only two estates have this type, which are Tai Hing Estate and Shun On Estate.

Overview

The area of this design is usually 80 x 80 meters. Buildings are usually 30 stories tall, with 29 floors reserved for residential use. On a floor, there are four wings with 12 units each. Therefore, there are 48 units per floor.[1]

It also has its own disadvantages. Due to the lack of flexibility and its large area compared to Harmony 1 and New Cruciform blocks, it is not effective in the planning of public housing estates. Therefore, the 30-Story Cruciform Block is discontinued.
