Concord Block
Concord Blocks (Chinese: 康和型大廈) [1]are a design found primarily in Home Ownership Scheme courts. It was built between 1999 or 2005. Some Concord blocks even end up in public housing estates.
Overview[edit]
The Concord block is a design that was meant to be unique to HOS courts. The first blocks are located at Wo Ming Court and Tin Chung Court (1999). There is only three variants. There are only 6-8 units per story.[2][3][4]
The government would like to reduce the time to three years. However, Concord blocks of Yat Tung Estate , Fu Tai Estate and Tin Heng Estate would have to be changed into public housing. Compared to New Cruciform, which is also unique to HOS courts, the unit area is larger.
Concord blocks are different to other block types. The laundry area is located on the windows of living rooms, so, it is unusual and different compared to harmonious and New Cruciform blocks. Therefore, it is divided in three variants: Concord 1, 2, and 3.
Types[edit]
Concord 1[edit]
Concord 1 blocks are cross-shaped. The height of a block may vary place-to-place, like Ching Wang Court (36 stories) and Kwai Yung Court (32 stories). Usually, it has 8 units per floor with 2 on every wing. However, these blocks may also be used as dorms/quarters. This is the case at Lei On Court, where some of its blocks is also government quarters for its employees. It has also caused the destruction of two Concord blocks in an incident at Yu Chui Court and Tin Fu Court.
Concord 2[edit]
Concord 2 blocks are longer when compared to Concord 1 blocks. It is also shorter, ranging from 26-32 floors. Only two-bedroom units are provided. Only Ko Cheung Court and Fung Ting Court provide both two and three-bedroom units. The courts that adopted the Double Building design are Wo Ming Court、Fung Ting Court, and Ko Cheung Court (government dorms).
Concord 3[edit]
Concord 3 blocks are based on Rhine Garden and Tung Tao Court and Lei On Court. It only has 6 units per floor. Two have three rooms while the rest have two rooms.
Additionally, a Concord 3 block at Kam Tai Court is special. Later, more would be built like Tung Tao Court, Yu Chui Court, and Lei On Court.
Features[edit]
Early Concord blocks featured barbed wire window grilles. This is unique and can not be installed on other types. Since 2001, installation is optional. Dormitory blocks also have window grilles but are similar to Harmony blocks.
