4-4-2 (game)
4-4-2 is a card game using the Standard 52-card deck, often with betting on each hand. The name is a reference to how the game is played; four cards are dealt to each player. Four's are wild cards, and two cards may be substituted after the hand is dealt.
How to play
Play is started after each player pays the agreed upon ante. The dealer gives one card face down to each player going clockwise, repeating until all players have four cards. After all cards are dealt, going clockwise and ending with the dealer, each player in turn declares whether they will keep or fold their current hand. Those that keep their hand may then discard and replace up to two of the cards held in their hand with the top cards on the undelt deck. After the remaining players have received their cards, all players reveal the cards in their hand and compare to find out who the winner is. After the winner takes the ante'd pay, the loser(s) then pays the agreed tribute usually four times the ante into the pot and serves as the players ante for the next round. (If the ante was $1, the tribute would be $4.) The deal is then passed to the player to their left.
The game ends when only one player does not fold, or until all players have been dealer. If the deal returns to the original dealer, a "free hand" is played in which all no players are required to pay a loser's tribute.
Scoring
This game does not use Poker hands and is based off of how many paired cards you have. This game ignores the cards suit. Wild cards (4's) are considered any card preferred. Cards are ranked from 2 to Ace with Ace being the Highest.
This list of acceptable hands is from lowest to highest.
(Lowest) High Card - The highest rank card in your hand.
Pair - Two cards sharing the same number.
Two pair - Two sets of a pair (example two 2's and two 3's).
Three of a kind - Three cards sharing the number.
(Highest) Four of a kind - All four cards share the same number.
