5$tar[1] (stylized as 5$TAR, sometimes referred to as 5Star) is an American hip-hop and streaming collective founded by PlaqueBoyMax[2] in or around 2019.[3] The group, composed primarily of rappers and Twitch streamers, gained prominence through online music competitions and collaborative projects[4] within the digital hip-hop community.
History
5$tar originated from PlaqueBoyMax's early YouTube content under the name 5$tar Buffet Boyz,[5] a creative group featured in his BasementBoyz videos during 2019. Over time, as Max's online presence grew, he transitioned from the Buffet Boyz brand and developed 5$tar into a distinct music and streaming collective.
The group began to solidify between 2022 and 2023 through Max's growing Twitch platform, where he gradually recruited members such as Skreet2x, NIKOWOODYEAR, Gawsxo, Wayne Almighty, and Young Dabo. Most members are known both as rappers and Twitch streamers.
The collective gained further visibility through social media platforms such as YouTube and Twitch, where members frequently appeared on PlaqueBoyMax's livestreams and collaborative community events.
Song wars and online competitions
5$tar is best known for organizing and participating in multiple Twitch-based music tournaments[6] collectively referred to as "5$tar Song Wars".[1] These competitions involved independent and emerging artists submitting original songs[7] to be judged live by audiences and critics.[8]
Notable events have included:
- 5$tar vs YRG Song Wars[9] – a collaboration and competition with YourRageGaming[10] (2023)
- 5$tar vs RAUD Diss Wars[11]– competitive Twitch event series (2024)
- Numerous other 5$tar-exclusive tournaments and freestyle showcases hosted on YouTube and Twitch.
Projects and collaborations
Members frequently collaborate on singles, live performances, and streaming events. A well-known showcase, the "5$tar Cyphers"[12] (2023 and 2024), feature verses from multiple members and highlighted the group's range of styles and production. There have been four in 5$tar Cyphers total.
5$tar House One, Two, and Three
The group has organized three public "5$tar Houses"[13] since its inception, with the most recent taking place in mid-2025. These collaborative house events—documented through YouTube videos and Twitch livestreams—feature members recording, performing, and producing content together in person.
