55 Pixels Ltd, formally known as Bin Weevils Limited, is a multi-award-winning game company focused on creating digital games.
55 Pixels was founded on 19 August 2014. The company decided to change its name from Bin Weevils Ltd to 55 Pixels as it expanded its focus on digital games beyond the previous Bin Weevils project.
Games
The company has released various titles since the name change, some for mobile devices and others for desktop computers. In 2015, they published "Snakes In Space" and "Pirate VS The Sea". The game "Weevil World" was developed in May 2017 and released in June of the same year. "Crater Craft" has been a consistently popular release in recent years. [1]
Reception
Data breaches
55 Pixels Ltd experienced a significant data breach in September 2014 affecting the Bin Weevils game. The breach resulted in unauthorized access to over 20 million user accounts and personal information. [2] Compromised accounts, email addresses, and passwords were subsequently published online. [3] A CAPTCHA was temporarily implemented to verify users during the breach, but was removed a few days later. [4]
In July 2017, Bin Weevils suffered another major data leak. Player accounts and personal information, including IP addresses, emails, and hashed passwords, were eventually made public. A false announcement of the game's closure was briefly posted on the Bin Weevils news page, but was quickly removed.
