From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Madras Gig is a joint initiative formed by Sony Music South and Chennai-based post-production facility Knack Studios and sponsored by 7 Up. Launched and backed by composer Anirudh Ravichander, it is an end-to-end live performance platform that offers a singular opportunity to talented bands and independent musicians to showcase their work. It is touted to be an important step in the direction of bringing out the best in regional independent music. Though Knack Studios announced this on June 2017 during its launch, it was revealed officially on early November.[1]

Background[edit]

Facilities[edit]

The platform offers the musicians/bands the facilities to make a first-rate recording, mixing and mastering and a chance to work with world-class technicians and a sprawling music studio to shoot their videos. The same will be mentored by prominent musicians and music directors from the Tamil film industry.[2]

Apart from the space and equipment, the technical team of Knack Studios is also at hand to help the musicians to shoot their live performances (also known as Studio Gigs) at the 15,000 sq.ft. sprawling studio in Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore, Chennai. The team will help edit and upload the live performances onto the YouTube channel of Sony Music South ensuring instant success and fame for the bands.[2]

Motive[edit]

The idea here is to give listeners a fresh sound created by the finest talent from the south. We are keen to start a pop culture in south where we connect artistes and fans directly and without the aid of a movie. We feel this will give rise to a new genre also encouraging other artistes to come forth for the next season.

Sridhar Subramanian, chief director of Sony Music South, about Madras Gig[1]

Ashok Parwani, chief head of Sony Music South, said in a statement that "The Madras Gig is a distinctive proposition for young and upcoming talent to get together and create sounds that are unique."[3]
