A.J. Balukoff
Anthony Joseph "A.J." Balukoff is a Idaho Democratic Party activist since 2014, serving multiple roles in the party.
Personal Life and Career[edit]
Balukoff is married to his wife Susie where they have eight children and 30 grandchildren.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Brigham Young University.[1]
He founded one of the largest locally owned accounting firms in Idaho (being a certified public accountant), created a successful chain of health clubs and building and operating signature projects like Boise’s Grove Hotel, CenturyLink Arena and the team Idaho Steelheads.
He is a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints[2] and has held various leadership roles.[3][4]
Political Career[edit]
Balukoff has served as a member of the Boise School District Board of Trustees since 1997.
Presidential Politics[edit]
Balukoff supported Barack Obama in 2008 due to John McCain's choosing of Sarah Palin has his VP pick.[5]
Balukoff supported Mitt Romney in United States presidential election, 2012.[6]
2014 Idaho Gubernatorial Election[edit]
Balukoff won the Idaho Democratic Party Primary for Governor with 65.3% of the vote against perennial candidate Terry Kerr.[7]
Balukoff lost the 2014 general election to incumbent Butch Otter earning 38.6% of the vote.[8]
He earned some notable Idaho Republican Party members endorsements such has former legislator Steve Smylie [9] and Jerry L. Evans who served as Idaho's Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1979 to 1995.[10]
Idaho Democratic Party[edit]
In March 2015 he was elected state party treasurer replacing Susan Eastlake.[11]
Was Idaho Democratic Party national delegation chair which he served has a Bernie Sanders delegate at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.[12]
