A. U. Coates was a political candidate in Iowa.
Biography[edit]
Coates was born Alexis Coates on June 21, 1858 in Excelsior, Richland County, Wisconsin.[1] He died on January 21, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Career[edit]
Coates was a candidate for Governor of Iowa in 1901, losing to Albert B. Cummins. In 1936, he was a candidate for the United State Senate, losing to Guy Gillette. He was a member of the Prohibition Party.
