AKRacing is a racing seat and gaming chair company established in 2001 with headquarters in Yangzhou, China by Chard Lee. The company has a US office in Oxnard, CA and a distribution network in Asia, Middle East, Europe, Americas, and Oceania....[1]

History[edit]

AKRacing company was founded in 2001 as a real race car seat manufacturer. The company does 100% of its own design, manufacturing, testing and quality control in-house[2]. The company also operates under AKPlayer brand in certain markets[3]

In 2013, AKRacing was the official sponsor of World Cyber Games 2013, which took place in the home province of AKRacing, Jiangsu[4], and provided the show with custom branded gaming chairs[5].

In 2014, AKRacing and Ninjas in Pyjamas partnered on a limited edition Ninjas in Pyjamas branded gaming chair[6].

In 2015, AKRacing teamed up with Team Dignitas, an international eSports team headquartered in the United Kingdom, acquired by Philadelphia 76ers[7]. As part of the partnership, AKRacing and Team Dignitas designed and added two "unique branded Team Dignitas Series to [the] current line of products."[8][9]

In 2017, the company entered into a similar partnership with Hell Raisers eSports team,[10] as well as a community-driven commerce platform Massdrop[11][12], and released a limited edition ASUS ROG gaming chair in Asia.[13] That same year AKRacing opened an official US location in Oxnard, CA and expanded into major US retailers, such as Walmart[14], Fry's Electronics, Staples, Best Buy, Office Depot, Dell[15], etc.

In 2018, AKRacing launched a European version of ASUS ROG gaming chair that was presented at Gamescom 2018[16] and attended Tokyo Game Show with a booth "filled with gaming chairs for people to get butts-on impressions."[17]

AKRacing remains the official gaming chair sponsor for LCK (League of Legends Champions Korea) since 2016[18][19], for PAX since 2017[20], and partnered with Zotac for Zotac Cup Starcraft: Remastered in 2017.[21] In April 2018, AKRacing became the official sponsor of H1Z1 Pro League[22][23] and also provided custom Fortnite gaming chairs for Epic Games' Fortnite Pro-Am tournament during E3 2018.[24]

Gaming chairs[edit]

AKRacing expanded its operations into the gaming chairs industry in 2004. The company launched an all-new 2018 product line in the USA, introducing three distinct series: Core Series, Masters Series and Office Series in the US during CES 2018.[25][26] Later, the new line was also introduced in Germany at Gamescom 2018[27][28] and in the UK at EGX 2018[29]

Office chairs[edit]

In 2017, AKRacing revealed its first office chairs, Meraki and Solitude, in Europe[30][31] and expanded the selection further in 2018 with the introduction of Office Series in USA, featuring Opal, Obsidian and Onyx office chairs.[32] The Office Series are more conservative in design than gaming series as "AKRacing has been toning down the bright colors with [the new] line."[33]

Other products available from AKRacing include gaming desks,[34][35] footrests and floor mats.

Reception[edit]

Core Series EX gaming chair has been rated "excellent" by PCMag as "a very good choice for anyone who wants to look beyond faux leather, or simply spend a bit less on a full-featured gaming chair."[36]

Masters Series Max gaming chair was described by them as "a tank of a gaming chair."[37] Other AKRacing gaming chair series available include: K7, Prime, Octane, Nitro[38], Overture, Player[39], and others.

AKRacing gaming chairs are regularly included on "The Best Gaming Chairs" lists by major gaming media, such as GamesRadar+[40], PCMag[41], Digital Trends[42], IGN[43], and others.
