The ALCO Century 428 was a proposed 2,750-horsepower, four-axle diesel-electric locomotive that was supposed to be built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO).[1][2]
History[edit]
The ALCO Century 428 was designed to be powered by the same engine as the ALCO Century 628 which was a 16-cylinder ALCO 251C prime mover. It was also designed to be using DC generators instead of AC generators.[1][2]
The reasons to why it wasn't built was because of complexity of DC generators at 2,750-horsepower. As a result of this, the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) instead produced the ALCO Century 430.[1]
