Overview[edit]
ASTRO Gaming is an American consumer electronics manufacturer specializing in video gaming headsets, peripherals, and accessories. The ASTRO Gaming Team lives by the motto, “living at the epicenter of technology and design”.[1] The company was founded in 2006 by Brett Lovelady and Jordan Reiss in San Francisco, California where the company remains headquartered today.[2]
ASTRO Gaming’s predecessor, ASTRO Studios,[3] partnered with Microsoft on the industrial design for the Xbox 360 gaming console and controller.[4] After operating independently for several years, ASTRO Gaming was acquired by the headphone manufacturer, Skullcandy in 2011.[5] ASTRO Gaming operated under the Skullcandy brand for six years and was acquired by Logitech in 2017.[6] It currently operates as a subsidiary of Logitech Inc.
History[edit]
In August 2006, ASTRO Gaming raised its first round of funding of $2 million dollars with the help of Seraphim investments.[7] At that time, ASTRO had a total of 7 employees. By 2010, ASTRO was up to 23 employees and had raised more than $5 million in additional funding.[8]
In 2011 Skullcandy, the publicly traded Utah-based company, purchased ASTRO Gaming for $10.8 million, acquiring all assets.[9] In 2016, Mill Road Capital purchased all outstanding stock of Skullcandy and its subsidiary ASTRO Gaming. In 2017, Logitech acquired ASTRO Gaming from Mill Road for $85 million dollars.[10]
