Association of Young Azerbaijani Friends of Europe (briefly, AYAFE) is voluntary non-governmental youth organization which is active in Azerbaijan. The youth organization has set a number of targets, such as developing the cooperation and knowledge exchange between European and Azerbaijani youth, raising the awareness of the youth of the world about the realities of Azerbaijan and supporting the state policy of Azerbaijan on the youth sector.

History[edit]

Association of Young Azerbaijani Friends of Europe (briefly, AYAFE) was established in 1997 by Matin Karimli and Anar Jahangirli, students of Baku State University. Being a pioneer among voluntary youth organizations, AYAFE has main objectives of promotion of voluntary activities and contributingto an experience and knowledge exchange process with the participation of the youth of other countries. AYAFE hosted its first international youth work camp at “Damiryol” work camp for internally displaced persons in Shaki, Azerbaijan in 1998. The main international partner of this event was Service Civil International (SCI) organization. AYAFE is an official partner of Service Civil International organization in Azerbaijan since 1998, and from the same year on, AYAFE is still a member of National Council of Youth Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic.According to the requirements of the law, AYAFE was re-registered in 2016 as the Young Azerbaijani Friends of Europe Public Union.

Activities[edit]

During the past years of AYAFE, hundreds of Azerbaijani young people have taken part in international youth events organized in various regions of the world, as well as European countries. In addition, every year AYAFE hosted lots of youth work camps and projects with the active contribution of foreign volunteers. The projects carried out by AYAFE were mainly dedicated to the topics such as improvement of the potential, skills and competencies of the youth, protection of rights of refugees and internally displaced persons, environmental education, gender equality, alternative youth tourism. The projects initiated by the organization with the years 2016-2017 include “Youth Voluntary Activities Forum” held at various universities, “Improvement of the Potential of the Youth in Alternative Tourism Sector” held in Ganja and Shaki citiesand one exhibition called “Our world of paper marbling”.

Meanwhile, this organization is still cooperating with a number of institutions and organizations. On 1 April 2017, AYAFE and ASAN Volunteers Public Union signed a memorandum of cooperation.This memorandum includes the encouragement of Azerbaijani youth to local and international voluntary programmes, trainings, projects and relevant events, creating opportunities for foreign young people to get acquainted with Azerbaijan, fostering the role of ASAN Volunteers within the framework of the cooperation in the alternative tourism sector, ensuring youth participation at the events with mutual interest and activities related to the international arena specified in state programmes and national activity plans, and finally, the cooperation in the performance of activities in these fields.
