The Global Association of Economics Education (GAEE)[1] is an international youth NGO[2][3] working to democratize access to economics education, financial literacy and entrepreneurship incubation for students in marginalized communities[4] and developing countries.[5][6] Le Dong Hai Nguyen has served as the Executive Director of GAEE since 2018.

History

The Global Association of Economics Education was established 2017[7] and incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.[8] It has been recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.[9][10] GAEE is listed in the Federal Reserve Bank's RePec (Research Papers in Economics) database of Economics Departments, Institutes and Research Centers in the World (EDIRC)[11] and is also associated as an NGO by the the Civil Society Network of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).[12][13][2][14] The organization has also established "strategic partnership" with the Association internationale des étudiants en sciences économiques et commerciales (AIESEC)[15] and is recognized as a global student group "working for the reform of economics education" by the World Economics Association.[16] It gained recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic as a Smart Initiative and a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Action by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).[17][18][19][20][21]

Programs

In 2019, GAEE launched the Silk Road Project: Southeast Asia Month program[22][23] and organized a series of conferences with the theme "Education in the Age of Industry 4.0" with the co-operation of AIESEC and the Vietnam Union of Scientific and Technological Associations.[24][25] It also initiated a beta-testing program for its virtual learning portal with over one thousand testers.[5][26]

In the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, GAEE partnered with the Oxford University Philosophy, Policy and Economics Consortium to host webinars withleading economists such as Tim Harford and Rupal Bhansali.[27][28] It also organized business case competitions in India in cooperation with leading experts such as Vice President of Morgan Stanley Anjan Gupta.[29]

In August 2020, The Dong-a called the GAEE-organized economic competition "the first eSports industry case competition [in Korea], which is co-hosted by ROX Gaming and sponsored by Corsair and Newzoo.[30] GAEE also collaborated with the University of Chicago and experts from the World Bank and the Singapore Universityof Management to organize a combined IT-economic competition for students in Korea.[31]

In September 2020, the Royal Society of Arts reported on the #GAEEforAsia campaign. According to Dr. Shailu Singh, Professor of Economics at Delhi University, this campaign has attracted the interest of more than 30 colleges in India as well as the National Council for Education Research and Training of the Government of India.[17] The Department of Economic and Social Affairs has also recognized this Sustainable DevelopmentGoal campaign No. 36897.[19][20][21]

In October 2020, according to Big News Network, GAEE has partnered with the Democratic Youth Forum of Korea and the Ministry of Unification of South Korea to hold an economic writing contest on the liberalization of the North Korea's economy.[32]

In May 2021, according to USA Today, GAEE organized a public policy development program for students from developing countries and disadvantaged communities. The program is attended by many leading experts such as former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher, President of the Trinity School at the University of Oxford Sir Ivor Roberts, as well as leading professors from universities such as Princeton and Oxford.[18][33] According to the Royal Society of Arts, the programme has also been described by Sir Ivor Roberts as "groundbreaking and highly intellectually stimulating."[34][35]
