A Father's Diary is a 2021 Canadian drama film directed by Golam Mustofa and produced by Banzai Multimedia in Canada.[1][2] The film was shot in four countries; Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, and the United States.[3][4] The film story centers on a South Asian father struggling to come to terms with his wife and daughter's choices of suspicious relationship and the impact it has on those closest to him.

The film world premiered at the 20th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) on 16 January 2022 under the category "Cinema of the World".[3][5][6] The film also UK premiered at the 5th London Bengali Film Festival on 24 June 2022.[7]

Plot

Hassan Ali and Marco Marino, of Bangladeshi and Italian descent, are neighbours who support each other through hard times and their teenage daughters, Dina Ali and Isabella Marino, are as close as their fathers. Although Hassan is a protective father and a loving husband, his childhood memories prevent him from adapting to the changing times. When it is revealed that Dina and Isabella are not just friends but life partners, Hassan refuses to adapt to the change, resulting in a series of events that threaten everything he holds dear.

Soundtrack

The movie has seven original Bengali and English songs. Of them, the "Ghum Ghum Ghum" song won the Best Bengali Song Video award at the 3rd Malabar Music Festival in Kerala, India.[8]

Accolades

Within a few months of its release, the film won a number of awards at several film festivals in the USA, Singapore and India including Crownwood, Kolkata Cult, Tagore, Druk, AltFF, Gangtok International Film Festival, Golden Earth Film Award and Aphrodite Film Award.[1][3][9][10]
