A Modern Gay's Guide is Australia's largest circulating LGBTIQ+ print and online publication. Founded in 2015, A Modern Gay's Guide began as a single HTML blog post, though has since grown to become a leading LGBTIQ+ news and events online website, as well as Australia's largest circulating national queer print magazine. The publication covers LGBTIQ+ events, gay-friendly food and drink venues, LGBTIQ+ travel guides, pop-culture interest pieces and queer-interest news issues.[1]. A Modern Gay's Guide has writers based across Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
History
A Modern Gay's Guide was founded in Sydney by Managing Editor Nick Aldrich, initially covering only New South Wales based LGBTIQ+ events and news stories, though quickly expanding into LGBTIQ+ events, gay-friendly food and drink venues, LGBTIQ+ travel guides, pop-culture interest pieces and queer-interest news issues around the whole of Australia, and now internationally[1]
The 'A Modern Gay's Guide' magazine is a monthly title published out of a Sydney based print house and is distributed across Australia, in all major metros. The magazine sees more than 20,000 free copies distributed via mailbox drop, community pick-up locations (libraries and public transport hubs) as well as in independent stores, bars, bottle shops and more.
Partnerships
A Modern Gay's Guide was an official media partner of the 2021 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras [2]. A Modern Gay's Guide is a proud partner of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, and has been since 2017.
Team
The publication boasts an all LGBTIQ+ identifying team of writers, spread across Australia, New Zealand and the US [3], who write on LGBTIQ+ events, with six staff writers and a handful of seasonal contributors. The team is made up of both male and female writers, from an array of different queer backgrounds, however all identify within the LGBTIQ+ community[3].
