Prof. Dr. Ab Aziz Al-Safi Bin Ismail is a Malaysian academic and public health researcher. He is an associate professor at the Department of Community Medicine, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), known for his work on chronic kidney disease (CKD), metabolic syndrome and complementary health therapies.[1][2]

Early life

Prof. Dr. Ab Aziz earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1983 and a Master of Public Health from the University of Malaya in 1990.[3][4] He later completed a PhD on cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetes at the University of Liverpool in 1998.

Career

Prof. Dr. Ab Aziz began his medical career with the Ministry of Health Malaysia, holding positions including State Director of Health in Johor. He taught at Universiti Sains Malaysia from 1992 to 2017, heading the Department of Community Medicine.[2] In 2018 he joined Lincoln University College in Kota Bharu as a professor of medicine.[5][6] He also serves as medical director at Neo Medicare Clinic, where he provides clinical services in diabetes and chronic kidney disease.[7][8][9]

Research

Prof. Dr. Ab Aziz's research has focused on diabetes, metabolic syndrome and chronic kidney disease.[10][11]He has led studies on diabetic nephropathy biomarkers, metabolic syndrome epidemiology and the effects of lifestyle and nutritional interventions on chronic disease outcomes.[12][13] His work has been published in journals such as Diabetic Medicine and the International Journal of Epidemiology.[14][15][16][17]
