Abbey Community College (Irish: Colaiste na Mainistreach) is an educational institution in Boyle, County Roscommon, Ireland. The college is co-educational, and operates under the authority of Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board. There is also a secondary school of the same name in Ferrybank, Waterford City.

History[edit]

Abbey Community College was formed in September 2002,[1] following the joining of Scoil Chríost an Rí, St Mary's College and Boyle Vocational School.

Qualifications[edit]

Abbey Community College offers a wide range of school educational qualifications, including Leaving Certificate, Junior Certificate, a Transition Year Programme, and Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. The college also runs two further education courses. These are FETAC level 5 Post Leaving Certificate courses, and are taught from a separate campus.

Facilities[edit]

Abbey Community College contains newly built facilities, including a lecture/demonstration room, a computerised language laboratory, an information technology department, a library, as well as specialist rooms for other subjects, including art, engineering, technical graphics, home economics, and music. Each of the school's thirty six classrooms are fitted with a projector, which can utilise the whiteboards as a screen for PowerPoint presentations for students, etc. The school is also home to three science laboratories. Sports facilities include basketball and tennis courts, a football pitch and access to the indoor sports complex situated on the school grounds.

Curriculum[edit]

The school offers a range of subjects as part of both the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate cycles.[2][3]
