Abbey Pynford is a ground engineering[1] company concentrating on foundations,[2] underpinning,[3] piling, retrofit basements, restricted access piling and jacking[4] and moving of premises.[5]
History
The company was established in 1988 by partners Paul Kiss and Phil Jones, civil engineers specialising in ground engineering and underpinning.
Notable projects
A project that attracted media attention was the moving of the Belle Tout Lighthouse away from the dangerous eroding chalk cliffs at Beachy Head. The project involved excavating ground around the lighthouse, erecting beams to support the wall, raising the lighthouse using 30 computer controlled jacks connected to a hydraulic engine, installing sliding tracks and then lowering 850 tons of lighthouse onto greased skates. Then, very slowly, the whole lighthouse was moved 17 metres away from the cliff.[6][5][7]
The firm has been a contractor in renovations of the London Underground, including the expansion and modernization of the Bond Street station.[3][8]
Abbey Pynford raised the height of the roof of the Grade II historic Granary Buildings, Leeds.[4]
