A Short Biography of Dr. Khondoker Abdullah Jahangir (Rah)
Dr. Khondoker Abdullah Jahangir, the founder of As-Sunnah Trust, was one of the best Islamic Scholars of the subcontinent as well as a reformer.
His Birth: Dr. Khondoker A.N.M Abdullah Jahangir (Rah) was born in the year 1968 in Jhenaidah District. He passed away on 11th May 2016 (Gregorian calendar). His entire life-span was 58 years.
His Background: His full name is Khondoker Abu Nasar Muhammad Abdullah Jahangir. He is known well known across the country by the name of Abdullah Jahangir. This exceptionally brilliant man was born on Wednesday 5th November 1958, 19th Kartik 1365 (Bengali Calendar), 23rd Rabius Sani 1378 Hijri at 4 o’clock in the afternoon at the house of his mother’s maternal grandfather, Imam Ali Mi’a (Mi’a House) in the Diknagar Village of Shoiulkupa PS in Jhenaidah Mohokuma of greater Jessore District. His father’s name is Muhtarah Khondoker Anowaruzzaman (Rah) [1930-1983 AD]; his mother’s name is Muhtarama Begum Lutfannahar (Rah) [1943-2019]. Narhoridra of Jhenaidah Town is his native village. Later his father settled in the Dhopaghata Gobindopur Village of the Jhenaidah Sadar although he spent his childhood at the house known as ‘Mi’ar Dalan’ in Muraridah. In 1960, Iman Ali Mi’a (Rah) moved to Muraridah from Diknagar and started living there permanently.
His Education: He admitted himself into Jhenaidah Alia Madrasah in 1968 by the will of his father. From this Madrasah, he passed Dakhil in 1973 followed by Alim in 1975 and then Fazil in 1977. He got admitted into Madrasah-e-Alia Dhaka at the Kamil Department in the Academic Year 1977-78 with the ambition of pursuing higher education. He passed Kamil from that department under the Madrasah Board securing the 8th place. He appeared for the Intermediate Exam as an external student in 1980 from the Hossein Sohroardi Government College (founded in 1940) and stood first in the Jessore Board. In 1981, he obtained scholarship and got the opportunity to study at the Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University in Riyad, the capital of Saudi Arabia. In 1985, he tied the knot with Mosammat Afsana the third daughter of Muhtaram Abul Ansar Abdul Kahhar Siddiki Al-Quraishi (Rah), the Peer of Furfura which has a rich heritage. He left behind his wife, three daughters and a son when he passed away. He spent his entire glorious student life in Riyad. He completed his Lisans in 1986 at Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University, and he completed his Master’s in 1992 and obtained a Phd Degree in 1998.
His Work Life: He joined the Islamic University of Kushtia as a lecturer at the Department of Al-Hadis and Islamic Studies on 3rd September 1998. He served as an Assistant Professor from 3rd September 1999 to 3rd August 2004 and he served as an Associate Professor from 3rd August 2004 to 23rd December 2009. Then he was promoted to the rank of Professor and he worked in the same department until he passed away. He founded As-Sunnah Trust beside the central Bus Terminal of Jhenaidah Town in 2011. This organization is carrying out different activities pertaining to promotion of education, propagation of religion, rehabilitation of destitute women and orphans, etc.
His Demise: He passed away in a car accident on 5th May 2016.
