Abhiyantriki, [1]a Sanskrit word for engineering, is the annual technical festival of the K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering. It is traditionally held in September end or early October. Abhiyantriki organises workshops, exhibitions, competitions, and lectures. It hosts Start-Up Expo, Internship Expo, Tech Expo, Auto Expo, and a Keynote Speaker's address. It registered a footfall of 15,000 in its latest edition. The two-day festival attracts innovators and eminent personalities in the field of science and technology from around the globe. Abhiyantriki [2]undertakes various social initiatives under the banner of ‘Parvaah’ to help the less fortunate.
History and Growth[edit]
The technical and cultural Fest at KJSCE were organised together as the ‘Youth Festival’ from 1985–1997. In 1998, a separate technical fest under the banner Abhiyantriki[3] was introduced with an aim to propagate scientific knowledge and technological innovation. The initial editions of Abhiyantriki laid the basis for the structure of the event and the forthcoming editions further built on this blueprint.

| 2016 | For the first time in the history of KJSCE, it was a 2-day event. The flagship event was the 2-day-long exhibition[4][5] by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Other featured events included Internship Expo, Ideate and Hackathon.
Speaker sessions had addresses by Saloni Suri, Consultant: Rolex Institute & Asia Society India Centre and Hetal Kotak, CEO of Lee Cooper apparel. Pre-events constituted of workshops on Internet of Things and Sixth Sense, and competitions like SCMU KJSCE Open, a Rubix Cube solving competition. KJSCE Abhiyantriki 2016 was presented by Prodigy Finance and sponsored by Canara Bank, Tata Realty and Infrastructure, Telex advertisements, Vodafone India, Maharashtra Times, Tata Consultancy Services, RedBull and many others. It witnessed a footfall of over 15,000 odd students and tech enthusiasts from schools and colleges all over Mumbai. |

Pre-events[edit]
Workshops[edit]
Workshops on IOT (internet of things) and robotics were held as a pre-event to Abhiyantriki 2016. IOT workshop dealt with interfacing electronic components with cloud based services and controlling these components using smartphones. Workshops on gesture controlled robotics and virtual reality were held in Abhiyantriki 2017.
Competitions[edit]
Competitions like CodeSpree, Code Wars, and SCMU KJSCE Open were held in Abhiyantriki 2016. CodeSpree was a national level coding competition. The SCMU KJSCE Open was a Rubik's Cube solving competition which comprised 12 novel competitions, a world record. Code Wars was a coding competition open to the students of all branches, specially designed to level the tables between all branches. SCMU returned to Abhiyantriki 2017 with a legendary cuber Mats Valk as a chief guest.

Hackathon[edit]
A hackathon is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including interface designers, graphic designers, and project managers collaborate intensively on software projects. Some hackathons are intended simply for educational or social purposes, although in many cases the goal is to create usable software. Hackathons tend to have a specific focus, which can include the programming language used, the operating system, an application, an API, or the subject and the demographic group of the programmers. In other cases, there is no restriction on the type of software being created. It was presented by CodeCell and CSI. It was held in Abhyantriki 2016 and Abhiyantriki 2017.
Ideate[edit]
The primary aim of this competition is for the participants to propose and advocate solutions to real-time issues and problems (given to the participants as a problem statement) inflicted on the populace of the country, giving way for efficient and effective techniques which will, in turn, bring about progress in human and technological systems.
The problem statement of Ideate 2016 was 'To propose and advocate solutions that reduce the quantity and density of the traffic by focusing on the usage and improving the efficiency of the Mumbai’s public transportation system'. Judges for this event were Sachin Teke and Prafulla Pophale, the CEO and Co-founder respectively of M-Indicator.
Apart from these featured competitions, the various technical councils of the college organized events like Circuit in the Box, Robo-Cross, Bridge the gap, Crackathon, Robo Sprint, Technical Paper Presentation, Car-O-Baar, Crypto Pokémon and Mumbai: On the road in 2016.
For the first time in 2016, Tech Shield, an intracollege competition among the five engineering departments was conducted.
Informal Events[edit]
To add an element of fun, informal events like Castle Math, VR Booth, Laser Tag, FIFA Manager, Tech Hunt, Quiz, Pic-O-Mania and LAN Gaming were held in Abhiyantriki 2017.
Panel Sessions[edit]
In Abhiyantriki 2016, Angad Nadkarni[6](CTO at Hullo Inc.), Ajay Chaturvedi (Founder of HarVa), Kaustubh Shivdikar[7] (TEDx speaker and innovator) were present on the panel of speakers. Mr. Hetal Kotak,[8] CEO of Lee Cooper and Mrs. Saloni Suri,[9] PR Consultant of Rolex Institute and Asia Society were the keynote speakers. In 2017, panel session on Cashless Society was held and speakers like Mr. Vishal Gupta, Mr. Murad Nathani, and Mr. Sameer Singh Jaini took part in it.
Expos[edit]
Start-Up Expo[10][edit]
Start-Up Expo was first held during Abhiyantriki 14’ with many Start-up companies participating in it. This event brought start-ups and angel investors together in the same room where the startup companies would present their ideas and vie with each other for investment in their respective start-up. It was to promote entrepreneurship and was the star attraction of the Event.
Auto Expo[edit]
Auto Expo has been a star attraction of Abhiyantriki since its starting years. It has collaborated with major companies like Jaguar, Audi, Fiat, Mercedes Benz. In 2013, this event presented high-end cars with participation from many colleges. This event helped students to gain perspective about different cars, their specifications, and new technologies. In 2014, racing cars from IIT-B(IIT Bombay Racing), KJSCE(Orion Racing India,Red-Shift Racing), Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering and G.V. Acharya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology were on display during the exhibition.
Internship Expo[11][edit]
This event was initiated in Abhiyantriki 15’ with an aim to provide desiring and deserving candidates with internships. This event provided opportunities for candidates in various fields ranging from marketing to engineering. This event helped candidates get internships and further help their career.
Tech Expo[11][edit]
In 2016, an ISRO Exhibition[12] was organised with senior scientists and engineers interacting with the incoming visitors from schools and colleges across the city.[13]Abhiyantriki 2017 saw the participation of the DAE, DRDO, and MET in the Tech Expo, the most ever by government organizations in any technical festival.
Parvaah[edit]
Parvaah is a social initiative of K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering started in 2015 with the aim of creating awareness and bringing about a change. It is inspired by the philosophy that it is the duty of every individual to contribute towards the society. It was started with a motive to understand that organizing various festivals is not only about fun and frolic, but also about spreading a message. Parvaah 2015 took up the cause of Women Safety and associated with the Mumbai Police, the Mumbai Taxi-men Union, Zicom among others to distribute safety kits for Women Safety and to create awareness. By associating Women’s Safety along with Symphony, it created awareness among the 5000+ students that attended Symphony, and thousands others in various colleges. In 2015, on-ground events like basketball matches and quiz matches for orphaned children during Symphony and Skream(Sports Festival of KJSCE) took place. Ranbir Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Rahul Ram, Devendra Fadanvis, Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover, Paresh Ganatra, members of Sparsh, Coshish, Sapan Verma and The Local Train all actively supported the Parvaah initiative by signing the Parvaah pledge. Parvaah has been working for the cause of LGBT Rights for the year 2016 - 2017. Parvaah associated with the Humsafar Trust and Queer Azaadi Mumbai, by being a part of the pride parade in a bid to change the perspective of the society and stand for the rights of the LGBT community. Parvaah also performed a short play to create awareness regarding LGBT, in various malls, metro stations and local stations. Workshops were held with known activists like Harish Iyer, Urmi Jadhav and Aaditya Joshi and Films were screened pertaining to the LGBT community. Celebrities like Celina Jaitly and Shriram Iyer supported this initiative by Parvaah. Under Parvaah, an Allies of the LGBT Community Meet, and a play regarding the community were held at Qube Cafe, in association with Illuminati and Rhapsody, the official literary and drama teams of KJSCE respectively. Parvaah also hosted a Cycle Rally which was an initiative to raise social awareness about the LGBT community. In 2017, it took up the cause of 'Health and Sanitation' in accordance with the Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan. It participated in the Versova Beach Cleanup in conjunction with Mr. Afroz Shah. It visited schools and other educational institutes to propagate this ideology.

Abhiyantriki 2016 was presented by Prodigy Finance, co-sponsored by Canara Bank, powered by Tata Realty and Infrastructure, in association with Telex Advertising Private Limited.
Abhiyantriki 2017 was presented by UPL, in association with Bank of Baroda, and powered by Odin.
Organizing and Technical Committees[edit]
The Students’ Council of the college backs Abhiyantriki entirely with the help of different technical committees and student clubs in the college namely CSI, CodeCell, ISHRAE, SAE, MESA, IETE, Emfinity, Mindbenders, Alumni Cell, Bloombox, SAHAS, IEEE, ISTE, EESA. The Core team is of 28 members headed by the General Secretary of the Students’ Council. Rest are allocated different sectors of fest to overlook. Each one of them syncs with each other in various fields like Marketing, Public Relations, Logistics, Hospitality, Creatives and every other aspect of the Festival. The Students’ Council is accompanied by the Organizing Committee and Volunteers to coordinate and execute the fest smoothly. Technical Committees have their own importance in the fest managing the various technical events to keep the fest up to its mark.
