Abishek Raaja (born 2nd October 1990) from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India is a cinema critic, video jockey, anchor, actor, narrator and radio jockey.
Personal life
His family has strong roots in arts and music; his mother being a famous Bharatanatyam guru in the region, his sister being a Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher. Abhishek, being a mridangam player, has an awesome repertoire and exciting stage presence – something which he values the most in life, along with his family, Tamil cinema and Skyla.
He did his schooling at Jeevana Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madurai and later joined TVS Lakshmi Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madurai for his higher secondary education. He went on to graduate from Christ University in Bengaluru before stepping into the cine industry.
Career
He was much motivated to pursue his interest as a radio jockey when he was interning as a photographer at Hindu. He realised his area of interest as a Radio Jockey at Radio Mirchii in Madurai. His major career switch happened when he went on to Behindwoods as a video jockey. He was known for his stage presence and spontaneity when he hosted the Behindwoods Gold Medal award ceremony and honed his anchoring skills during the Behindwoods Gold Medal Awards. During his time at Behindwoods, he also worked as an assistant director for the Jigarthanda (2014 film) [1] movie. He later joined Fully Filmy, the cinema-centric franchise of South India, as a correspondent. He joined Sun Music for the Spotlight show, where he interviewed prominent celebrities in Tamil cinema.
He made his screen presence in the movie Jigarthanda as a reporter introducing Aaa. Kumaaru. In 2018, he debuted as an actor in the movie “Imaikkaa Nodigal” [2] and became known for his role as “Boy Bestie”, becoming an icon for boys across the nation. He currently runs his own venture “Open Panna”, which centers around happenings in Kodambakkam and the Tamil cinema industry.
His interview with A. R. Rahman and Kamal Haasan in a single show was quite popular during the lockdown at Open Panna[3]. He is currently a contestant in Bigg Boss (Tamil season 5) in 2021. [4]
