Prof. A. H. M. Ahmed in a Program in October 2000.

Abul Hasan Moinuddin Ahmed (1938-2002) was a Professor of Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry) in the Department of Chemistry of University of Dhaka. He was also known as A H Moinuddin Ahmed. He was a philanthropist and advocated that humanity is the ultimate practice one should perform in life. He was an author and wrote hundreds of poems, treatises which were published as books. Ahmed was born in India, later came to then East Pakistan. He pursued his PhD from University of Aberdeen[give reference].

Education[edit]

A H Moinuddin Ahmed completed his PhD (1967-69) in Inorganic Chemistry and Crystallography from University of Aberdeen, UK under the Commonwealth Scholarship. He also completed an MSc (1966-1967) from the same university in Inorganic Chemistry. He had another MSc (Ag) (1962-1964) in Soil Science from University of Kalyani, India. He had his BSc (Ag) (1959-1962) in Soil Chemistry and allied subjects from University of Kalyani, India. Another BSc (1956-1958) in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics from University of Calcutta, India. His secondary schools were Bhagabangola High School, India during 1950-1954 and Sripat Sing College, India during 1954-1956. During 1958-1959, he had another ISc in Biology in 1959 from University of Calcutta. In both of the degrees from University of Kalyani, he stood First class First. Besides study, Dr Ahmed took active part in the organization of student activities in a constructive manner as specified by the Principal of his Institution. He organized various social functions and cultural activities of students, and was a prefect of the hostel.

Research and Publications[edit]

Moinuddin Ahmed spent only few dedicated years in research, specially while he was in the University of Aberdeen. He worked on Clay Minerology (University of Kalyani, 1963-64), Lime-water-silica system (University of Aberdeen, 1966-67), BaAl2O3-H2O System (University of Aberdeen, 1967-69).[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] He guided a number of postgraduate students including PhDs.

Service Life[edit]

Ahmed served as a professor from 1987 to 2002 of Inorganic Chemistry in University of Dhaka. He held a position of Reader in the Department of Chemistry, Teaching and Research from October 1981 to August 1985 at University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. Earlier, he served as an Associate Professor in the Dept of Chemistry, University of Dhaka during 1978 to 1981 and 1985 to 1987 and in the Dept of Biochemistry from 1973 to 1978. Before that he served as Senior Lecturer and Assistant Professor in the Department of Soil Science at University of Dhaka between 1964 and 1973. During his career, he taught on Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Crystallography, Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Bio-Physical Chemistry, Colloid, Soil Chemistry and Soil Physics. He was a member of International Union of Crystallography. Almost 52 journal publications were recorded in his career approximately during 1969 to 1989.

Philosophy and Writings[edit]

Besides a structural career in higher education and job, Dr Ahmed keenly had a world, full of thoughts and practices, that he exercised and later expressed. He founded the idea of Majlish, the word rooted from Magism and Licht. The core guiding principle was that knowledge is light. Reality and spirituality are mingled to each other, and one cannot be separated from another. Humanity is the ultimate saviour for mankind. Love for the humanity is no separate incident than Love for the God. He produced a number of articles and poems within a very short span of time. Some of the titles of his writings were “Faith”, “Social Philosophy”, “Sequence”, “Social Welfare”, “Surrender”, Frugality”, “Mattergy”, “Service”, “Forgiveness”, “Ambiguity”, “Creator”, “Human”, “Love”, and many more.
