Abuse by proxy
Abuse by proxy occurs when a person uses a third party to abuse a victim. The third-party can be another person or an institution.
This is a strategy often used by narcissists, who manipulate packs of flying monkeys to harass, intimidate and isolate their targeted victim.[1]
Institutional abuse by proxy occurs when the abuser manipulates institutions such as the law courts, the police or mental health services to injure their victim. Examples include filing false police reports, or convincing a therapist that the victim is in fact the abuser.[2]
This type of abuse is very damaging because the victim never knows where the next attack is going to come from. They live in constant fear, having lost their peace of mind and sense of security.
