Following a fundraiser they organized in Boston in 2014 benefiting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Jon Kazarian and Zach Hagopian noticed a gap in the market in terms of an easy and platform for event management and fundraising. While remaining active in the Boston event community, the two founded Accelevents to be able to help event hosts with their fundraising and event ticketing needs[5], designing a mobile silent auction system[6]. The platform eventually evolved to also include event ticketing and registration features.

Founded in Boston[7], Accelevents helps thousands of events around the glob with their event management and fundraising needs.

The company was also formed at a time when online and mobile giving has been seeing large increases in the United States year over year. From 2016, mobile and online donations have increased by 17%, with the total share of overall donations coming from online or mobile sources also reaching an all time high of 8.5%[8].

In general, the Accelevents platform caters to a multiple different event ticketing and online / mobile fundraising needs.

Online Event Ticketing and Registration[edit]

Online event ticketing and registration refers to the use of a software or technology to host, promote, execute, and sell tickets to your event. Today, most event hosts prefer using online ticketing methods in order to reach a larger audience as opposed to selling physical tickets online. According to a Google study, 71% of all tickets were purchased online in 2014[9].

Mobile and Online Fundraising[edit]

Mobile and online fundraising includes multiple fundraising forms, such as silent auctions, online donation pages, and text to give campaigns.

Mobile and Online Silent Auctions[edit]

Mobile and online silent auctions are used by fundraising hosts to reach a larger audience than what their in person auctions would reach. Rather than using paper bid sheets, online and mobile auctions allow bidders to browse items, submit bids, and make payments online directly from their mobile device. Online and mobile silent auctions also allow fundraising organizations to leverage the accessibility of the internet to promote their auction to their audience and accept donations from anywhere at anytime.[10]

Online Donation Pages[edit]

Online donation pages have become an increasingly popular fundraising tool due to their ease of use and quick set up time. Organizations interested in attracting donations at anytime can build an online donation page that either acts as a standalone or can be embedded directly into an organization's website. From there, supporters can donate directly from the online donation page, entering their donation and credit card information.

Text-to-Give[edit]

Text-to-give campaigns are a simple fundraising tactic that allow donors to donate to a cause via SMS text message. Using this method, donors can text a keyword to a phone number, which will then either charge their cellular plan directly, or provide donors with an online link to a webpage where they can enter their donation and payment information.
