Adam David Dixon was born in June 1992 in York (UK). He attended Cardiff University where he obtained a Masters in Engineering in 2016[1]. He founded the company Phytoponics on 25 Oct 2016.[2] as the CEO. He has invented a new system of hydroponics for use in farming. Dixon is also a published author as a design engineer for his paper exploring Computer Aided Ethnography in Engineering Design[3] in which he proposed a new Front-End Engineering and Design tool named: Inferred Engineering.

Biography[edit]

Dixon was born in York and went on to live in Pocklington in East Yorkshire where he attended Woldgate School[4].

Adam Dixon and his company Phytoponics have been awarded or shortlisted for a number of awards. These include the Shell livewire smarter Future award in August 2017[5], shorlist for the Natwest Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2017 [6]. In June 2017, Phytoponics was awarded support from the Welsh Governments Accelerated Growth programme [7] Phytoponics was also one of the 2017 finalists for the Design Council Spark competition for its "grow bag" design[8]

UNEP Young Champion of the Earth[edit]

In November 2017, Dixon was the United Nations Environment Programme European Young Champion of the Earth. He was chosen from amongst six European finalists for each continent, due to the ability of his growing system to help refugees grow food in resource scare locations; being transportable and rapidly deployable.[9] There was wide media coverage of Dixon's new invention, including the BBC[10], the Metro newspaper [11], the Daily Mail[12], the Evening Times (Glasgow)[13]
