Career
First Home Video Film in Nigeria (late 1980s - mid 2010s)
The beginnings of the video film market in Nigeria are traced back to the 1980s when television productions thrived[1]. There was currency devaluation and a ban on imports in Nigeria; these issues affected the film making industry as equipment and tools became too expensive[2], VHS (Video Home System) was the option for many television productions back then, leading to the development of a small scale informal video trade. This method was adopted and built on by producers and distributors at Alaba market to reinvent the film industry which was at the time facing a major decline. The first film produced on video in Nigeria is 1988's Soso Meji[3][4], produced by Ade Ajiboye.
