Adewale Fayemi is a chemical engineer and company executive in Uganda. He is the general manager of Total E&P Uganda. He was appointed to that position effective 1 September 2015.[1][2][3] Fayemi is the third general manager for the company in Uganda since it joined the country’s petroleum exploration in 2012. His main task will be to negotiate with the government of Uganda to secure production licenses for Total E&P Uganda.[4][5] The company has submitted five applications for production licenses in Buliisa District, and in Nwoya District. None of the applications has been approved as at March 2016.[5][6]

Background and education[edit]

He was born in Nigeria circa 1970. He attended the University of Lagos. He holds a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering. He also holds postgraduate qualifications in management from other institutions, including Harvard Business School in the USA, Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom and INSEAD in France.[1][2][3][6]

Career[edit]

Before 2007, Adewale Fayemi held various positions in Elf Petroleum Nigeria, TotalFinaElf EP, Smith International Inc. and Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited. From 2007 until 2009, he served as Field Operations Manager at Elf Petroleum Nigeria. He served in he same position at Total E&P Netherlands from 2009 until 2011. He was the General Manager at Akpo Field Operations, from 2011 to 2012. Following that, from 2012 until 2014, he served as the Executive General Manager, Deep Water Field Operations at Total E&P Nigeria. He then worked as the Managing Director of Total E&P Ivory Coast, from June 2014 to August 2015, the position he held immediately prior to his present assignment. [1][2][3][6]

In October 2015, Fayemi was part of the four-person team which signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed between the governments of Tanzania & Uganda, Total S.A. and the Tanzania's Petroleum Development Corporation, which culminated in consensus to build the Uganda–Tanzania Crude Oil Pipeline.[7]
