"Adore You" is a song by English singer-songwriter Jessie Ware. It was written by Ware and English musician Joseph Mount of electronic music group Metronomy. Production was handled by Mount, with mixing done by James Ford of the duo Simian Mobile Disco. The song was released through Universal Music Group on 13 February 2019, as a single from the singer-songwriter's fourth studio album, What's Your Pleasure?.[1]
Background and release[edit]
"Adore You" premiered on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 talkshow on 13 February 2019. Stereogum called the song a subtler version of prior single "Overtime", stating that the song was "a sleek electronic dance-pop track that finds Ware’s lovestruck, feather-light coo dancing atop a burbling synth groove."[2] It also contains elements of house music.[3] During an interview with Pitchfork, Ware said "I’ve wanted to work with Joe for such a long time and this is the first thing we did in the studio together. This is ‘Adore You.’ It's just a little something to tie you over with until my next release. It feels fitting to put this out when I'm about to become a new mum again and feel the most confident I’ve ever felt about my music. Happy Valentines, I adore you all."[4] The Fader noted the song's similarities to music by Swedish singer Robyn.[5] The 360 Mag also noted the song's club sentiments, describing it as an "exciting a subtle essence of nostalgia to keep the spirit of clubbing music alive",[6] while Spin Magazine called the song an "electro pop ballad".[7] A remix of the song produced by London DJ HAAi was also released to promote the single.[8]
