Background and release
"Adore You" premiered on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 talkshow on 13 February 2019. Stereogum called the song a subtler version of prior single "Overtime", stating that the song was "a sleek electronic dance-pop track that finds Ware’s lovestruck, feather-light coo dancing atop a burbling synth groove." It also contains elements of house music. During an interview with Pitchfork, Ware said "I’ve wanted to work with Joe for such a long time and this is the first thing we did in the studio together. This is ‘Adore You.’ It's just a little something to tie you over with until my next release. It feels fitting to put this out when I'm about to become a new mum again and feel the most confident I’ve ever felt about my music. Happy Valentines, I adore you all." The Fader noted the song's similarities to music by Swedish singer Robyn. The 360 Mag also noted the song's club sentiments, describing it as an "exciting a subtle essence of nostalgia to keep the spirit of clubbing music alive", while Spin Magazine called the song an "electro pop ballad". A remix of the song produced by London DJ HAAi was also released to promote the single.
