Adrian Stresow (born June 22, 1998) is an American rapper, producer, and music engineer from Dallas, Texas. He first gained recognition for his work in Christian hip hop, earning a spot on the 2016 Rapzilla Freshmen List.[1]

Early life

Stresow was born on June 22, 1998, in Frisco, Texas, where he grew up. He began making music in his early teenage years and went on to release a series of Christian hip hop mixtapes.

In 2016, he graduated from Wakeland High School and later attended Dallas Baptist University for a single semester before dropping out to focus solely on his music career.[2]

Music career

Stresow began producing music in middle school around the age of 13. From 2015 to 2016, he released two free mixtapes, Senioritis and Pajama Day, exclusively through Christian hip hop news website, Rapzilla. In December 2015, Rapzilla included Stresow on their 2016 Freshmen List, alongside artists such as Aaron Cole, Aha Gazelle, and Steven Malcolm.[1] His first retail album, At Least I Tried, was released independently on February 17, 2017. The album reached No. 31 on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart that same day.[3] He released his second full-length album, The Kid In His Room, later that same year on September 27, 2017. His sophomore project peaked at No. 15 on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart the day of its release.[4] On March 30, 2018, Stresow released a compilation album of nine previously-released singles from 2017 to 2018 titled I'll Explain Later. A few months later, he returned with his third album, It Could Be Worse, on June 22, 2018. In a September 2020 appearance on a podcast, he revealed that after the release of his third album he was financially stable enough from music to move out of his parents' house in August 2018.[5]

Stresow released his fourth album, Be Safe Out There, on September 28, 2019. A week prior to its release, he announced that from October to November 2019, he would be joining Justin Stone on his Playing For No One North America tour, performing a total of eleven shows across the United States.[6] His next project was a five-track extended play, titled 22, released three days before his 22nd birthday on June 19, 2020. Stresow has not released a follow-up project since the release of 22, the longest hiatus of his entire career. Stresow explained the gap in releasing music after many consistent years was due to "a lot of things happening in my personal life".[5]

On January 21, 2022, Stresow officially announced the launch of his new audio engineering service, Mixed By Pros.[7]

Personal life

Stresow was raised Christian. Despite his frequent contributions to Rapzilla early in his career, he stated on an episode of Rapzilla.com Live with Chris Chicago in 2016 that he doesn't label himself as a "Christian" rapper.[8] Despite the majority of his music focusing on topics such as working hard and the various obstacles that come with being an up and coming musician, he writes about his faith in songs such as "Fall" and "Hard To Tell".

Stresow has admitted that his attention deficit disorder has been one of the most difficult challenges in his life. He claims it made going to school and focusing in class very difficult.[2] Stresow has referenced his disorder a number of times in his lyrics over the years. In his 2018 track titled "It Could Be Worse", Stresow raps "I'm tryna open up the Bible, but it's hard to read. I'm ADD, and my mind going to other things".[9]

Stresow is an outspoken fan of the Minnesota Vikings NFL American football team. He was initially drawn in to the Minnesota Vikings fandom when he received a Cris Carter trading card in 2007. Later that year Stresow became even more invested when he watched as Adrian Peterson got drafted, play his first game, and score his first touchdown. Stresow has also admitted that he has watched the replay of the Minneapolis Miracle of 2018 "more times than he can count" and has "teared up an embarrassingly large amount of times" from watching it. Every year at the start of the NFL football season, Stresow jokingly predicts "Vikings are gonna go 16-0 and win the Super Bowl" on Twitter.[5]

Stresow has been in a relationship with Shannon Sheppard since July 2018. On February 3, 2022, Stresow announced his engagement to his long-time girlfriend, via Instagram.[10]
