Adrian Wagner Studio
Adrian Wagner Studio is a multidisciplinary creative studio based in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. Founded by Adrian Wagner, the studio specializes in photography, music, and audio production, serving clients in the Kootenay region and internationally.[1]
Photography
Adrian Wagner has been working in photography for over 20 years, beginning with a Nikon film camera in 1996 exploring black and white photography.[2] The studio provides commercial, wedding, and creative event photography throughout the Kootenay region.[3]
Wagner has worked for clients internationally and locally, including Nelson Brewing Company and Zellstoff Celgar in Castlegar.[1] He has also worked for 20 years as a graphic designer and web developer, bringing expertise in photographing for both web and print media.[2]
Art prints
The studio operates an online art collection featuring archival prints of Kootenay landscapes. Each print is produced using pigment-based archival inks designed to last more than 100 years.[4] The studio operates an environmental initiative where one tree is planted for each print sold, in partnership with Trees for the Future.[4]
Music and performance
Adrian Wagner began playing piano at age 5, growing up surrounded by both classical choral music and southern gospel jazz.[5] He studied in New York City at age 17 (later noted as 19 in another source), focusing on classical composition, jazz piano, and improvisation.[5][6] He furthered his studies in jazz and audio production at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.[5]
In 1999, Wagner travelled to Zimbabwe, where he spent six months writing a thesis on improvisation in traditional Shona music.[5]
Musical projects and performances
Wagner has performed across North America, including venues such as Berklee Hall in Boston and Reisinger Hall in New York City.[6] He has appeared at several music festivals including Shambhala Music Festival, Kaslo Jazz Fest, Om Festival, and Revelstoke Music Festival.[6]
He has performed with various musical groups including:
- Wassabi Collective – an internationally known electronic music and dance band, where Wagner toured across Canada as keyboardist[6]
- Odyssey 3 – a three-piece jazz and improvisational piano trio with Paul Landsberg and Jimmy Lewis[6]
- The Ensemble Project – an improvisational ensemble from New York City[6]
- Pureblend – a five-piece world music band[6]
- Grand Theft Canoe – a four-piece hip hop and live jazz project[6]
Recording studio
Adrian Wagner Studio operates a recording studio in Nelson, BC, equipped with professional audio production tools including Ableton Live, Kontakt 5 with world sample libraries, and various synthesizers and MIDI controllers.[7]
Community involvement
Wagner has participated in the Nelson & Kootenay Lake Tourism's Photographer in Residence program, showcasing photography of the region since April 2021.[8]
