Adzerk is an ad serving cloud platform based in Durham, North Carolina.[1] The company makes SaaS ad serving software that lets user-focused sites/apps build unobtrusive native ads. Adzerk's main product is a web and API-based cloud platform[2] created with the core features of "fast ad serving, better forecasting, and first class usability".[3] Other features include the ability to track custom events, such as ads being voted up or down.[4][5]

History[edit]

Adzerk was founded in 2010 by James Avery, having grown out of two niche advertising networks.[3][6]

The company closed a $650,000 seed round of investment in 2011.[6] In December 2011, Adzerk announced an app store as part of adOS, intended to give publishers access to ad tech tools and third party ad networks.[3][7] In the summer of 2012, Adzerk released a new version of its ad code, designed to be the fastest in the world.[3]

In March 2013, Reddit switched from using Google's Doubleclick platform to using Adzerk, in part to take advantage of the ability for their users to upvote and downvote ads.[8][9]

Confirmed customers using adOS include Reddit,[10][9] Stack Overflow, Xconomy, Neudesic Media, and BitTorrent.[10][11]

In June 2014, Adzerk announced that they would no longer support the adOS Marketplace or free accounts, citing poor conversion rates to paid accounts.

In 2015, Adzerk was ranked #262 in Inc. magazine's list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the United States.[12][13]

In September 2015, Adzerk began honoring the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Do Not Track requests for their customers, becoming the first online advertising company to do so.[14][15]

In April 2016, Adzerk helped launch Startups Against HB2 in reaction to North Carolina's HB2 bill.[16][17][18]
