Africa is home to over 1 billion people and has 54 countries with its largest economies being Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Nairobi among others.[1][2] However, the economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa is not uniform across subregions and countries. The GDP growth of Western and Central Africa is estimated to decline to 3.4% in 2023, from 3.7% in 2022, while that of Eastern and Southern Africa declines to 3.0% in 2023, from 3.5% in 2022. The region's performance is still dragged down by lower long-term growth in the largest countries on the continent that mostly determines growth and development in African economies.[2][1][3]

African Business Summits[edit]

Economic development in Africa has been facilitated by regional and international business summits. This include foreign investors, local investors and business communities in Africa.[4][3] The Summits include:

EU-Africa Business Summit is another economic summit that has an integrated and innovative perspective on Africa's developmental future by gathering world investors to deliberate on business financing, policies and diplomatic negotiations for agricultural produces in the international markets to boost development for African economies.[5] Furthermore, US-Africa Business Summit convened by the U.S. government and  Corporate Council on Africa is a pivotal annual gathering that brings together over 1,000 U.S. and African private sector executives, international investors, senior government and multilateral stakeholders with the goal of promoting conducive trade environments and agreements that bind African and American legal frameworks to ease trade and business relations.[6] Also, the  Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA), together with  Norfund and Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs annually  organizes the Nordic-African Business Summit in Oslo hold development summits of Africa's future in the business world focusing on sustainable energy models catalyzing global business dynamics.[7]

Lastly, the London Business School Africa Business Summit is  among the leading forum in Europe for shaping Africa's growth. It is a student-led initiative that attracts an audience of over 500 investors, policymakers, business leaders, professionals, diaspora, students, and alumni. The forum also brings together professionals from all continents to leverage on existing avenues to do business in Africa and best practices to scale up industrialization with the goal of driving sustainable business models in Africa.[8]
