Agate de Sousa (born 5 June 2000) is a Portuguese professional athlete who specializes in the long jump. She is a bronze medalist at the European Athletics Championships and represents Portugal internationally.
Career
De Sousa was born in São Tomé and Príncipe and represented her birth country early in her career. In 2023, she received Portuguese citizenship, and her transfer of allegiance was approved by World Athletics, allowing her to compete for Portugal.[1]
Her career highlights include:
- 2024 European Athletics Championships: She won the bronze medal in the long jump with a mark of 6.91 meters, her first major international medal for Portugal.
- Personal Best: Her personal best in the long jump is 7.03 meters, which is also the national record for São Tomé and Príncipe.[2]
De Sousa has since become a key figure in Portuguese athletics and has competed at the highest levels, including the Diamond League, where she secured a victory in 2024.
