Ahmad Baccora (born January 2, 1984) is a Syrian politician and humanitarian activist, and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and president of the International Commission for Refugees (ICR) and a member of the General Assembly of the Syrian National Coalition. Baccora has been actively involved in various humanitarian organizations and initiatives since 2001.

Career[edit]

Baccora's career started in 2001 when he co-founded Superstar Fast Food in Damascus. Later, he worked as the Executive Director of Baccora Trading Company from 2003 to 2011. In 2007, he founded the Afnan Company for Clothing Trading. In 2012, he became the Chief Executive Officer of the International Organization for Humanitarian Response (IOHR) until 2016. Since 2012, Baccora has been President of Rthe USHD Institution for Civilization Development, a non-profit organization focusing on human rights and democratic values.

From 2013 to 2018, Baccora served as the co-founder and communications director of Al-Sham Investment Group, which focused on developing the Syrian economy. From 2015 to 2020, he served as the Executive Director of the Strategy Studies Center For Humanitarian Diplomacy.

Since 2020, Baccora has been a member of the General Assembly of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces[1] and the Election Basket in the High Negotiating Committee of the Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces.

In 2023, Baccora became the President of the International Commission for Refugees, a non-governmental organization that aims to assist and protect refugees worldwide. He is also the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee for Refugees (STMK) Coordinator.

Education[edit]

Baccora started to study for a Bachelor of Computer and Information Engineering from Yarmouk Private University in 2011 and a Bachelor of Sharia from Al Fatih Islamic Institute in 2009. He also holds a Bachelor of Political Science and International Relations from T.C. Mardin Artuklu University, which he obtained in 2020. Baccora is pursuing a Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Studies at T.C. Social Science University of Ankara.

Activities[edit]

Baccora is a Syrian activist and writer who has authored numerous opinion articles and studies on Syrian politics, rational politics, refugee issues, and human rights. His work addresses critical topics related to the Syrian conflict, such as the refugee crisis, humanitarian responses, and conflict transformation. Baccora has also contributed to several international university and organization reports and publications.
