Al Anood Al Obaidly
Al Anood Al Obeidli (born 1990) is an Emirati visual artist, known for her collages and installations from found objects.
Biography
Al Obeidli has a degree in visual arts at the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises at Zayed University, Abu Dhabi.[1][2][3] She showcased her work there in 2017.[4] Following a solo exhibition titled Turning Point at Abu Dhabi’s Tashkeel Gallery in 2014,[1][5] Al Obaidly was awarded the Shaikha Salama Artist in Residence Award.[2][6][7] She also received a Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation Emerging Artists Fellowship.[8][9]
Her work involves mixed-media collages and installations, in both inside and outside spaces.[2][10] It has been described by one reviewer as "colourful and quirky ... creat[ing] a tension between familiarity, unfamiliarity, playfulness and conceptual distance."[10] For the curator of the East-East: UAE Meets Japan exhibition in 2016,[11][12] "Al Obaidly’s conceptual vision reminded [her] of the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi."[13] A reviewer for The National described "a few surprising, almost Franz West-like sculptures by Al Anood Al Obaidly that hide within the show" at an artist-curated group exhibition at Bait 15.[14]
Her work has been shown in a number of group exhibitions, such as The (fourth) March Project,[10][15] From Barcelona to Abu Dhabi: Works from the MACBA Art Collection,[16][17][18] She has also been featured in 'Under the Radar' on Artslant[19] and in The National.[20]
