Alejandro Almeida (born January 1, 1926) is an American politician from Havana, Cuba.[1][2]
Early life and education
Alejandro was born in Havana in 1926. The son of the Cuban business and economics minister.[2] He attended private schools in Havana and received his Bachelor of Economics degree (BEc) from the University of Havana in 1942.[1] He also received a Juris Doctor. At law school he became good friends with Fidel Castro, the future leader of communist Cuba.[1][2]
Military career
Alejandro joined the military at 24 years of age as a Major in the intelligence branch of the Cuban military. Two years later he was promoted to the rank of Colonel.[2] When the Cuban Revolution started, Fidel Castro contacted Alejandro to[3]
Post-politics
In recent years, Almeida has worked at Rogers, Gunter, Vaughn, a Tallahassee-based insurance agency and been active in related trade associations and lobbying for the industry[3].
