Alemba is an IT software company headquartered in Edinburgh. It produces software for IT Service Management. It was formed in July 2007 by Simon Nugent who had previously worked for Infra Corporation from 1992 to 2005.

History[edit]

Infra/EMC/VMware[edit]

Infra Corporation was founded in Sydney, Australia in 1991. Simon Nugent joined as an employee in 1992 and remained with the company until 2005. After a brief interlude with KCOM Group, Nugent set up Alemba in 2007 as a reseller of Infra Corporation's infraEnterprise software and a provider of Professional and Development Services to existing infraEnterprise users.

Alemba became a partner of EMC when Infra Corporation was purchased by EMC in 2008[1] (the product name changing to Ionix Service Manager under EMC stewardship) and a partner of VMware when they acquired Ionix Service Manager in 2010. VMware in turn renamed the product VMware Service Manager.

vFire/Alemba Service Manager[edit]

In 2014, Alemba and VMware concluded a spin-out deal which handed global support and development for the VMware Service Manager product to Alemba. [2] Alemba originally badged the newly acquired software 'vFire'[3] but in 2019, after a major technology overhaul, the vFire name was replaced with Alemba Service Manager. However the previous numbering sequence was continued so the first released badged 'Alemba Service Manager' was 10.0 (to distinguish it from the VMware-produced v9 series).[4] Financial analyst Megabuyte reviewed the performance of Alemba in light of the Alemba Service Manager v10 launch.[5]

At this time Alemba started offering the choice of cloud-hosting to its customers using Rackspace Technology as one of its cloud partners.[6]
