From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Alex Breingan (born May 1972 (age 51)[1] is a British New Zealand television executive producer, television writer and former radio host.[2][3][4]

Breingan was also a co-founder of the New Zealand TV channel Choice TV, now known as Eden.[5][6]

He was the managing director and founder of the now defunct New Zealand production company Stripe Studios.[7][8][9] Due to financial and legal issues the company went into receivership along with nine related entities under the Stripe Studios business umbrella and another holding company related to the Stripe Studios.[10]

Early life and career[edit]

After leaving University Breingan went on to work as an intern for BBC Radio 1.[11][11]

He later became a radio producer at the BBC.[12] In 2002 as originally a planned gap year, Breingan moved to New Zealand with his wife.[11]

Breingan slowly moved away from radio into TV. Breingan previously worked as a radio host for the now defunct New Zealand radio network, Radio Live.[13][14][15] He also co-founded the New Zealand TV channel Choice TV[5], now known as Eden.[16][6][17]

Career[edit]

Breingan was previously one of the executive producers for the morning series, The Cafe[18][19] which aired from 2016 until 2020. During this time Breingan established the production company Stripe Media in 2014, later known as Stripe Studios.[7][20] The production company produced various television shows across New Zealand. Breingan is the sole director of Stripe Studios.[21][4]

Shows from Stripe Studios that were produced aired previously on SKY Open New Zealand,[22] Discovery Australia New Zealand[23] and NBCU NZ for the channel Bravo.[24][25][26] The most notable series they produced and wrote was The Circus[27][4][28], Rich Listers[21] and Great Southern Truckers.[29][4][30] Rich Listers received criticism after Breingan publicly mentioned that the show was fictional.[31]

In 2019 Breingan and his wife were the subject of the series 100 Day Renovation[32] which aired on SKY Open, known then as Prime.[33][34][35]

In 2023 Breingan also served as one of the executive producers for the New Zealand film The Tank.[36][37]

Personal life[edit]

Breingan is married to Rachel Hart, who is a food blogger and former news reporter for Three.[38][32]

Financial and legal issues[edit]

Problems arose in February 2024 when reports of post-production services were not paid for their work Breingan's company Stripe Studios, owing a six-figure sum each to two different post production houses in Auckland, New Zealand. Both services sought legal advice. [20][27] American comedian Iliza Shlesinger who filmed a show for Stripe Studios[26] which is yet to be released applied for liquidation on 20 December 2023 to the Auckland High Court due to outstanding payment.[39][40] In March 2024, Shlesinger successfully liquidated Stripe Studios (Comedy), a subsidiary of the larger Stripe Studios Group.[41] Two days before Shlesinger applied for liquidation in December 2023, Breingan registered a film company in the UK, Loveday films. The website was taken down after questions arose from New Zealand media.[42] Breingan also registered another film company, SNB film in February 2024.[43]

American actor and singer David Hasslehoff who also worked on a show released with Stripe Studios alongside comedian Rhys Darby was also owed money. The show is yet to be released.[20] Shows that were produced from Stripe Studios for Bravo New Zealand were also no longer on their website.[20] The company along with other entities for several productions with Stripe Studios went into receivership March 2024.[44][9] A further three companies which were under the Stripe Studios umbrella went into receivership on 14 March 2024.[10]
