Alex Epstein (screenwriter)
Alex Epstein (born January 26, 1963) is an American screenwriter, novelist, producer, and educator. His credits include Naked Josh (which he co-created) and Charlie Jade.
Career[edit]
Raised in New York, Epstein graduated Yale in 1985 in Computer Science and English. He would subsequently work as a development executive for Kingsborough Pictures, Arama Entertainment, and with directors like Richard Attenborough and John Badham. He later co-created and wrote several episodes of the comedy television series, Naked Josh, and rewrote the Canadian buddy cop crime film Bon Cop, Bad Cop. He also worked extensively on the sci-fi series Charlie Jade.[1] He has also made several short films over the years, inbetween television assignments.[2]
His first foray into fiction novels, The Circle Cast: The Lost Years of Morgan le Fay, was published in 2010. It's a retelling of the Arthurian legend, focusing on the rise of Morgan le Fay, the powerful witch and eventual nemesis of King Arthur, set in Roman-era Britain.
Teaching[edit]
In addition to screenwriting and novels, Epstein is also a screenwriting teacher. Crafty Screenwriting: Writing Movies That Get Made was a screenwriting manual, for feature films, derived from Epstein's career in development. Next, Epstein wrote Crafty TV Writing: Thinking Inside the Box, in 2006. This book focused on his experiences in television and guiding writers in crafting series and pilots that would sell and get them staffed. There is also a tie-in blog, entitled Complications Ensue.[3]
