Alexander Ullom is an American filmmaker. He is best known for writing and directing the horror film It Ends (2025).

Early life and education

Alexander Ullom was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. During his early years, he developed an interest in filmmaking and storytelling, though his parents were initially skeptical about pursuing film as a career. After beginning his studies in computer science, Ullom reconsidered his career direction following a personal mental health crisis at the age of 18. He later presented a proposal to his parents explaining his desire to pursue filmmaking professionally, eventually gaining their support.[1]

Ullom subsequently attended Florida State University, where he studied film. While at the university, he collaborated with fellow filmmakers and producers, including Carrie Carusone and Evan Barber, and gained experience working with emerging virtual production technology developed through the university's film program.[1]

Career

Alexander Ullom began his filmmaking career through independent digital projects and online comedy sketches. One of his early YouTube sketches gained viral attention and helped him secure initial financing for future film projects.[1]

In 2024, Ullom was named one of Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Faces of Independent Film".[2][3]

Ullom made his feature directorial debut with It Ends, an existential horror film which he wrote and directed.[3] The film premiered to critical acclaim at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival. The film later won the Best First Feature Award at the Fantasia International Film Festival and was selected as one of the launch titles featured in the "Unreleased Gems" section of Letterboxd's Video Store.[4] Described by Ullom as a "hangout horror,"[5] the film follows a group of recent college graduates whose lives take an unsettling turn after they become trapped on an endless road. Neon acquired worldwide rights to the film for a theatrical release.[4]

In November 2025, it was announced that Spooky Pictures and Image Nation had acquired and greenlit Ullom's upcoming horror film 4 X 4: The Event following a competitive bidding process. The film is being produced through Ullom's production company, which he co-owns with producer Carrie Carusone, who also serves as a producer on the project.[6]
