Matthew "Matt" Canning is an American technologist, entrepreneur, and author.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Canning taught himself the computer programming language, BASIC, at a young age and earned bachelor's degrees in computer science and mass communication from La Salle University.[2]
Career
Musician
Less than a year after graduation, Canning abandoned his technology career to join the hardcore punk band, Shai Hulud, with whom he toured internationally for several years.
Technologist
After returning to a career in software engineering, Canning eventually transitioned into leadership and spent most of the next twenty years serving in executive positions at companies like Comcast. In 2023, he founded NoPlex, a software company that builds AI-driven apps for adults who struggle with ADHD.
Author
Canning has written four non-fiction books on personal and professional productivity,[3] provided content for outlets such as Fast Company,[4] edited software engineering textbooks,[5] and contributed to books on early-stage startup investing.[6]
Personal life
Canning lives outside Philadelphia with his wife and two children. He’s still a hobbyist musician and has been a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner and coach for nearly twenty years.[7]
